Hypernatural Architecture

This Fall visitors will see Hypernatural Architecture, a cave-like theatrical diorama created by artist Keith Langergraber, in the Glass Gallery.
This installation is an assemblage of kit-bashed architectural models that combine Euclidean geometry with perverse building techniques to personify our collective climate anxieties. In this off-kilter presentation mining structures used in industrial development appear to sink into a fantastical dystopian underworld that includes a Golden Sphere, referencing to the 1972 sci-fi novel Roadside Picnic.
Keith Langergraber studied at the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. His work has been exhibited widely in Canada and abroad and is held in many public collections. Langergraber researches specific sites to explore social, cultural, and political change. He is a lecturer at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and lives between Vancouver and Kelowna.
