Description:
Join Candace Thayer-Coe who will present a family-focused Suminagashi workshop. This ancient and traditional Japanese artform involves creating concentric bands of colour with ink that floats on water.
The artist controls the floating pigments through the viscosity and surface tension of the water, while cooperating with the elements of nature to create images suggestive of landscapes, the movement of clouds in the sky, the flowing motion of wind-blown cloth, and slowly running streams coursing through fields. The inks on the surface swirl with the water and the pattern is captured with absorbent paper making a mono print.
This workshop is for families with children ages 8+
