Award-winning Nova Scotia-based sisters Cassie (fiddle) and Maggie (guitar) MacDonald marry innovation and tradition with their standout East Coast music. Their new album Gold and Coal is up for four 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Sisters Cassie (fiddle) and Maggie (guitar) MacDonald are booked for the Kelowna Folk Roots Music Society just as their wonderful new recording, Gold and Coal, received four nominations for the 2026 Canadian Folk Music Awards. While Maggie’s up for Traditional Singer of the Year, the duo also received a nomination as Ensemble of the Year. Gold and Coal earned them recognition for a Horizon Award for pushing the boundaries of folk music as well as Traditional Album of the Year. Clearly this trailblazing Nova Scotia-based duo are something to behold. As the Calgary Herald succinctly noted: “These two young ladies inhabit the rare air of the greats.”
