Peter Brötzmann and Heather Leigh in Concert!
Date:Tue, May 30th, 2017
Skin And Bones Music Series celebrates its second year anniversary with an electrifying performance by the internationally renowned duo of Peter Brötzmann and Heather Leigh!
For over 45 years saxophonist and composer Peter Brötzmann has been a force of nature within the spheres of free jazz and improvisation. Seventy-six years young and still unchallenged as the “loudest saxophonist in the world,” Brötzmann continues to make innovative and incendiary music with passion and lyricism that is both astounding and terrifying. Peter will be joined by electric pedal steel guitarist Heather Leigh, who contorts slide guitar into distortion laden textures, plaintive wails, and jagged melodies.
“(This duo) spews a raucous, unrelenting, spiteful, acid-drenched, caterwauling hate-bomb; a maelstrom; a toxic dreamscape; a grotesque collision of desperate lungs and screaming metal; a romantic taser blast to the heart.”
Richard Thomas, The Wire Magazine
Opening for Peter and Heather will be the Bjorn Kriel Quartet – with Bjorn on piano, Madeleine Ertel on trumpet, Alex Argatoff on bass, and Jason Martin on drums. This quartet of young firebrands represent some of the finest musical talent in the Okanagan who thrive on pushing musical boundaries!
Tickets are $25 or $20 for Alternator members or students and will be available at Milkcrate Records and the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. Season Passes for the 2017 edition of Skin And Bones can also be purchased at the Alternator or online at www.alternatorcentre.com
