Event:

Ballet Kelowna Presents 150 Moves

Date:

Fri, Feb 3rd, 2017 to Sat, Feb 4th, 2017

Time:

7:30 pm

Description:

Originally commissioned by Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, the pas-de-deux Dénouement was created by Matjash Mrozewski to showcase the tremendous talents of NBoC dancers at the Eighth International Competition for the Erik Bruhn Prize

A work of stunning complexity, intricate formations manifest and disappear as the dancers rhythmically disentangle and unfold themselves from one another’s grasp.

Doppeling is best described as “a gender-bending vision of doppelganger ballerinas breaking loose.” (Georgia Straight) Orlando’s cleverly constructed, theatrical romp is a visual feast. An ensemble of dancers - wearing the same bobbed wig and skin-toned bodysuits - provide mesmerizing commentary on conformity and individuality that is at once playful, serene, and edge of your seat fun.

The Fiddle and The Drum is a poetic work born from the collaboration between legendary singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell and Alberta Ballet Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître. Excerpts from the full length work will be performed by Alberta Ballet II. Mitchell’s melodic metaphors express her grave concern with conflict, violence, and environmental degradation, providing an ideal musical backdrop for the richly nuanced contemporary ballet.
